Protoss build order

Easily the most important part of a Protoss build order is the necessity of constant probe production. Immediately, build probes, and when the ninth one is built go on to place a pylon which will allow more probes to be made without interruption. Once the pylon is in place, warp in a gateway and then a cybernetics core. After this point, the variety of different strategies can be used by protoss players.

One option at this point, is to continue to advance up the tech tree to the Stargate, and begin warping in void rays. Void rays are unique units in the protoss army because the longer they remain firing, the more damage they do per second. Three to four stargates can be used to make an effective force of Void Rays, while a few stalkers built from the gateway can help protect the base while the Void rays are attacking things.

Another viable option once a cybernetics core has been completed is a collection of warp gates. Inside the cybernetics core, there is research for warp gates which allows units built in the gateway to be built instantaneously anywhere there is a pylon. Start with four warp gates, and add more as the game goes on to build up faster. The delay between warping new units in can be shortened by using the special ability in the Nexus to increase production like any other unit. Use this method to quickly build a large group of stalkers. These two build orders are possibly the most common Protoss build orders.

Four gateways is what a protoss player using ground units should have built at the very minimum. A good addition to a ground based protoss player is at least one Robotics Bay to build observers to scout the map. Countering enemy armor is effectively done with the Immortals, which have hardened shields and high anti-armor attacks, and countering massive groups of weak units can be done with one or two colossus providing cover fire. Colossus have an immense range, even without the range upgrade that can be gotten at the Robotics facility.

With the Protoss build order, The Protoss is one of the more popular races to play in Starcraft 2, if not the most. The reasons are obvious, with its immensely powerful void rays and tenacious stalkers that can blink in and out of combat at a moment’s notice. There are many different Protoss build order because the Protoss race is so well balanced, so try experimenting with different unit combinations.
